Benefits Of Having No Electricity

16 December, 2008 (11:52) | Family, Frugal Moments, Money, Solving Problem

I’m here at a nearby internet cafe (that does not sell coffee, by the way) simply because I cannot leave my internet “job” and because we don’t have electricity. Why? Well, I couldn’t pay so it was cut off and we’re living in the dark for more than a week now. :(

I can say that it was quite a good experience. I learned a lot. We (the whole family) learned a lot. In times like this, you always have to be optimistic. It doesn’t help to be pessimistic.

Benefits:

- less consumption (next bill will be super low)

- no tv

- more time to read a book (even using a candle)

- more time to meditate

- more time to play with children (instead of them playing with the computer)

- handwashing is faster than using washing machine

- going to the internet cafe gives me more focus on what to do online

- the family as a whole learned to be more patient (i think this is the best benefit)

Of course we still wish to have our electricity back (still pumping for money) but will remember the lessons we gained while without. Will try ironing once a week only and using the washing machine less. Good thing the weather is cool so electric fan is not that much missed. :)
