Nose surgery is the common term for rhinoplasty. No, it’s not that plastic surgery for that water animal.
Although it became popular when well-known actors and actresses went under it, rhinoplasty has developed myths to the general public. Let us examine these myths.
1. As long as you are a plastic surgeon, you can do rhinoplasty surgery.
All As can do Bs but not all Bs can do As. All rhinoplasty surgeons can do plastic surgery but not all plastic surgeons can do rhinoplasty surgery. Rhinoplasty surgeons must know and understand thoroughly the detailed anatomy of a nose and the respiratory system so when the surgery takes place the end result will not only be aesthetically pleasing to the eyes but also functional.
2. Rhinoplasty is motivated by vanity.
Perhaps the most common you see would be motivated by vanity since Hollywood is fast in these types of “news” but the less broadcasted are those resulting from accidents and birth defects probably due to failed abortion. Thanks to rhinoplasty, such problems are now solvable.
3. Rhinoplasty is painful.
With general anesthesia, it usually isn’t since you are in deep sleep. After the surgery, though, your nose will be in cast and the feeling is that of a congested nose. The area around the nose and eyes may be swollen and bruised especially if you have undergone reshaping but the overall pain is minimal.
