Malicious Hallmark

by Cecile Cinco

I just received an email that I got an e-card from Hallmark sent by supposedly someone I know.

When I checked the email, there was no name. I know some friends and relatives who do not send their real names to make the card a surprise so I tried to look around for clues.

Since I have the habit of NOT just clicking on links unless I’m sure of the site, I moused over the link and see what I found out.

Malicious Hallmark

Look above, at the bottom of the image. As I moused over, I found out that the email did not come from Hallmark as it wanted me to think it did. Instead, it came from legacymodels…and notice the file name…funny.gif.exe…

Who knows what’s behind that link? I did not click it. It’s probably some program that executes when I click on it which could lead to some porn and will bug my computer relentlessly.

Although this is well known by many, still there are a lot who are not aware of such malicious intent.

Be aware. Be careful.

I get tons of spams and malicious emails in my inbox. Many from supposedly reputable banks and credible sites buy it really pays to know if and be careful, especially of phishing sites. Also have the habit of checking for MYTHS, SCAMS, FRAUDS, ALERTS, etc, BEFORE you forward any email, even if you think it is good or will save someone. I don’t have the habit of forwarding because unless I’ve VERIFIED the info.
