Don’t Let Your Inability To Write Get You Down

When people learn that I’m a blogger and have created more than a dozen blogs in the span of one year, they’d say, “That’s great, you must be a great writer!”

Well, maybe, maybe not. It actually depends on what I’m writing about and what the writeup is for. Now, I’m just writing what’s going on through my mind. I may be great if you compare me with non-writers but I may be mediocre if compared with journalists and novelists.

When was the time you really need to write something and you cannot? In college? Thesis? Essay? Or do you have that problem now?

I got a confession to make. Writing a thesis was never my problem. I’m not bragging. It wasn’t my problem because it was never a chance to be a problem for me. I NEVER went into college. Yes, never. I wanted to but finances were very limited. After about 2 years of vacation, I got into technical school and studied how to repair radios and TVs instead. I also learned to rewind a motor. But those didn’t require me to write some thesis, ok. I also took up some scholarship for computer literacy. In 1985, the “in” thing was Lotus123, dBase III+ and Wordstar 4. Those were my basic learning experience in the computer field. I got a job playing with dBase III+ with the Philippine government, an Australian-run private company, and again the Philippine government from 1988-1994. Then I stopped, stayed home but continuously learning on my own because that was the time the internet was introduced to me by a friend. Then in 2000 I was able to apply as a web designer for a contractual job and they were in a hurry. It was a semi-conductor company with thousands of employees. The MIS had about 20 programmers plus the system administrator. Guess what. I asked for a salary that was the range of the system administrator at that time and all their programmers are so envious I can see it in their eyes because they were a few thousand less and I get to use the internet from the time I arrive till the time I leave. The person who hired me knew that I had no college education. What I had was skill that I tapped from the internet.
