Reminiscing Nightlife

by Cecile Cinco

Back when I was single and living alone, I lived and worked in Olongapo City. My first job at the Mayor’s Office as a Personnel Aide with the task of a programmer (salary of a personnel aide with a job of a programmer, that is).

Olongapo City is my hometown. I did not grow in it but almost all my “firsts” happened there like my first year high school, my first technical year, my first job, my first independence, my first trophy. (Having a first signifies a second occured, and even a third or fourth, but that’s beyond the issue.)

Back to Olongapo, it is a town that boasted zero crime rate and best police in the whole Philippines when I was there. The people felt safe. Olongapo City was alive 24 hours a day. Many of the best bands came from Olongapo like Amo Band and Rockstar, to name a few. The clubs I was able to go to all boast of live bands that perform very professionally, most of them are pizza houses (well, that’s what I go to). You can’t find Pizza Hut or Shakey’s there. They are no match to the local pizza houses especially Sam’s Pizza, which I miss.

I’ve never been a disco fan but most of my bowling pals boast of pure enjoyment out of their Bonita nightlife.
