Dog’s Best Friend

by Cecile Cinco

We know that dogs are a man’s best friend (and diamond is a woman’s, though that has nothing to do with this post ;) that is why I am enclosing the statement in a pair of parentheses where it belongs. :))

We used to have dogs until they died of old age. They were intelligent dogs though not of special breed. One is named Tisay (because it’s whitish) and Tagpi (because it’s spotted black and white). Those dogs caught rats in the backyard! They just kill them and put it at our doorstep while they watch over it until we see the dead rat.

When they’ve long been dead, another dog came to our life. We named her Tisay 2 because she just moves like Tisay. Very agile and playful yet stern with possible enemies.

She ran around the house, in and out of the front and side doors even playing with the little chicks that roam the ground. When a visitor enters the house, Tisay would growl in a warning manner. She would go under the chair of that visitor and a slight move of the exposed feet will make Tisay “bite” on the ankle part which will give the visitor a somewhat stressful moment. That usually happened to first time and even second time visitors. Tisay will never bite, just warn, though.

Both Tisays and Tagpi were huggable dogs. When I walk out the road, sometimes I would see dogs that are sickly, their skins exposed. It’s a pity they cannot be brought to a vet by their owner. They should be treated even if for mere dog dandruff. By getting them treated, not only will the dog be man’s best friend but the man will be the dog’s best friend as well.
