How To Download YouTube Videos The Easy Way For Free

by Cecile Cinco

Many still do access the internet using dial-up. I used to, until I found the option to go DSL with the price I pay as I used to using a separate unlimited dial-up internet. So now I’m enjoying DSL for the same price.

I know the difficulty using dial-up at this technological age. It’s like using a 2.4Kbps modem when the 14.4Kbps was the top of the line, which I did experience in the mid-90s. I did everything to minimize the heavy load like surfing through Lynx which was a text based browser (not sure if it still exists now) or surf through email (it’s no longer an issue now).

Now, it seems, everything is on video but the dial-up users are crying for help in desperation. When you are patient enough, you can let it load first while you are taking your education online, and then when it’s fully loaded, you play without interruption. If you got interrupted by a disconnection, you repeat the loading process which takes forever.

There is a better way. Download YouTube videos to your computer. (I haven’t tried to download videos from other servers like Google or Metacafe but there’s no harm in trying the process used using what I did with YouTube. Then tell me if it works.

The simplest step-by-step solution to downloading YouTube videos for free:

1. go to the root of the video (if it’s embedded somewhere else, double-click the video and you will be brought to the source or root of the video and you can see who uploaded it).

2. at the url address, change the word youtube to voobys so you get http://voobys.com/blah-blah-blah on your browser and hit Enter.

3. you’ll see a download button and it will prompt you with a name that is named get_video which you can change to your own videoname.flv (add the .flv as the extension).

4. if you don’t have a flash player yet, download it as well.

That’s it.

Offline, execute the flv player and drag-and-drop the flv video file. You’re ready to watch the video you just downloaded, continuously.

What if the connection got broken while downloading? Well, you have to repeat it but it’s still faster and safer and less annoying because you’re using the lesser chance of waiting longer just to view a video you later found out to be unsatisfactory. :)

Hey! I have made some youtube video downloaders in perl, awk and vbscript.
Check this “youtube video downloaders” page on my blog to see them.

Also I wrote some articles on how to convert the videos to .avi, etc.
Browse around to find them! :)
