I’ve been a witness to several people who passed their golden years almost turning a century old. It’s not just the age but it’s what you are when you are aged that matters.
Would you like to be one of those being cared for because you cannot do your toilet thing yourself anymore? Would you like to have an idle mind because you did not nurture it when you were younger?
Would you like to not remember who you are, where you are and who your family is? Would you like to be continuously sneered at because you lack what any normal student should have known?
Not knowing basic knowledge because you were not able to go to school is not an excuse. You can improve by doing some reading and all you need is the time and willingness to do it.
The same when you get old. Let’s face it, as a person ages into his/her senior years, reading gets neglected. Being such, the brain lacks the exercise it needs to function better than when an old person misses on reading.
Do puzzles like crosswords. Do anything that makes you think. The easiest is reading. While your sight dims as you grow old, it dims slower than people who do not read anymore. I’m sure Crespi will be one of those who will grow old with fresh memory.
Looking back to those aged people I know who almost reached 100, they all read up to the last days of their lives. I’ve seen some also who did not…and I pity them not knowing who were taking care of them due to senility.
Read. It can save your sanity.
