Tested: You Can Send Money Through Xoom Even If Your PayPal Is Validated In The Philippines (Mine Through EON Visa), Even To Yourself

by Cecile Cinco

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

PayPal Philippines has been able to accept money for several months now instead of mere sending. You can have it verified by attaching a credit card or a debit card like EON Visa from Union Bank, which is what I applied for.

The best is to apply online for your EON VISA because it only takes 5 days. You don’t have to go to the bank then go back again to pickup your card. The best is, it only costs PhP350 a year and maintaining is zero balance. At the left side panel under Quick Apply, choose EON VISA Electron. Your name should be exactly as it is in your valid IDs (you need 2). After 5 days, go to the branch you chose to pick up the card, show your IDs, pay the fee, sign papers, and that’s it. The other good thing about EON is that you can direct your money to the bank and withdraw from any ATM. If it was a credit card, the money directed to your credit card will merely payoff your credits. Oh, another good thing, this ATM can be used globally. When you apply make sure you apply for the EON VISA Electron and not merely the Cyber Account which is just good for the whole Philippines. Read the TOS.

Use Xoom to Send Money to the Philippines

The problem (not really a problem if you’re not in a hurry) is, it takes about ten days before your money from PayPal directed to your chosen bank be reflected as ready for actual withdrawing from the ATM/bank. So, my solution is send it to myself through Xoom! The fastest was 17 minutes. After 17 minutes, it is ready for pickup. It is also up to 80% cheaper (standardly 50%) than Western Union.

Xoom offers fast, reliable money transfers to all over the world at a great price from the convenience of your computer and you can pick it up even from a pawnshop (check pickup locations). It is also available for bank deposit and door-to-door delivery but it takes longer than cash pickup.

Send your PayPal money through Xoom especially if you’re in a hurry. It’s not only fast, it’s also cheap.

I was able to do this twice. But after that, Xoom started cancelling my PayPal to Xoom transactions. Xoom’s support dept. emailed that they have traced this Philippines to Philippines transfer just now. Since it’s not yet allowed, I can’t continue with my PayPal to Xoom transactions.

How many times were you able to do this successfully?

Tnx for the warning, Alfa, maybe I have to call email or call xoom to have a clear idea on this.

Joliber, tnx, I’ve voted already. Hopefully (every nominee does) I win. ;)

rhyan, xoom is an alternative when you are in a hurry. :)

my paypal is usa and want to withdraw to a brazil bank. Brazil is on their list. The problem is my paypal is limited and I can only withdraw not anything else. So how does it work with xoom? Does xoom send you a bank account to add to your paypal for withdraw or do you have to you use send wire, or send money option?

Hi Victor. You’ll have to send money to yourself (just like sending to anyone else) through Xoom. Look up pickup points in your area, that’s where you’re going to claim your money. Bring 2 valid IDs. If you want somebody else to pick up the money so there will be no questions why the sender’s name and receiver’s name are one and the same but different countries, make sure that person can supply 2 valid IDs as well. Then both of you can go to the Xoom outlet. Disclaimer: I’ve done that here in the Philippines, I cannot say that it works 100% in Brazil.

Why not open a Brazilian account? Attach a credit or debit card so you can verify then the withdraw to bank option will be available.

my paypal is limited and from the email i just received from xoom it seems the procedure uses a “paypal payment” or “send money” optioin and definitely not “withdraw funds”. My limited account only allows “withdraw funds”.

Why would I open another brazil paypal account? The money is the old paypal usa account and the only way to get it out is via withdraw to bank option.

I see. When did you apply for your PP? Is it just recently? I think PP has made some changes that you can only use your money where the owner is. Hmmm…I’ve had my Italian account more than a year now and it was set up by a friend who really lives in Italy. Rules more than a year ago could have differed now. Looks like, the only solution you can have is have a US bank account, which is now possible. I’ve researched on that before, I’ll have to look for the info.

my pp account is about 5 years old. yes a usa bank is not hard for me. Actually i have a vmi card in hand but i am worried if i add it the account will be limited to withdraw another 180 days. Someone told me they can only do this once but i remember happening twice for me already.

btw, pp has no way of knowing who the account belongs to so you can add bank of anyname you want. But you need to make sure you can take it out from your bank afterwards.
