How To Bring Out Coffee Aroma Better

by Cecile Cinco

I can live a day without coffee…IF I just need to, like if I’m fasting or it’s not available for one reason or another. On the average, though, I drink about 5 mugs (if the mug is like the one you see on your right) or 10 mugs (regular-sized mug) a day. That would start from about 4:30am and right before going to sleep at around midnight.

I can drink ANYTIME and it makes me awake and it makes me sleepy.

I prefer Nescafe among the local buys. It has the aroma that perks me up when inhaling. I remember when the factory in Alabang was still working, everytime we pass by while riding a bus or jeepney along the expressway, I try to inhale every bit I can as if it’s quantifiable. I don’t like Great Taste nor Kopiko. Unless deprivation from Nescafe will force me to divert.

(There are other coffee brands too expensive for me to buy which I was just able to have because someone gave it and I like them too like Taster’s Choice, Folgers and Maxwell.)

I prefer Nescafe sachets–the 3-in-1 kinds. It’s cheaper for me. If I buy the packs of coffee, creamer and sugar separately it will turn out more expensive because I tend to put in a little bit more coffee and creamer.

How do I make my coffee in this case? A teaspoonful of coffee, add about 2 tablespoonfuls of tap water, stir (this way the aroma comes out better –ok, I’ve answered the title of this post). Add 1 teaspoonful sugar, add hot water, add 2 teaspoonfuls of creamer. Stir.

Usually, though, as I said, I buy sachets. So what I do is empty 2 sachets of 3-in-1 into my mug and then hold the mug with left hand while the kettle with hot water with right hand. While pouring hot water, move left hand in circular motion (clockwise, or counterclockwise if using your right hand with the mug…remember, it’s the mug that’s circling). Why do I do this? I save on teaspoon. The weight of the hot water pouring on coffee while mug is circling is enough to give it a stir. :)

Variations: Add 1 sachet of Milo or Nesvita or both.

I sure do keep the sachets for later use. I’ll show you in another post. :)
