I Fell In Love With A Guitarman

I knew that he played classical guitar. I heard him play. He used to play rock too and he was very good.

Before we met I had a collection of classical guitar pieces played by John Williams. There are others who are not as popular but classical too so I love them.

There was one piece that I love to hear. Title is Cavatina and it’s the theme of The Deer Hunter, a war movie.

One day when my then friend came to my boarding house he saw my collection and of course I told him about my favorite. I thought there was nothing to it but the following week I was to be surprised…he played Cavatina to me! Wow! I was really amazed, to say the least. He was really great! I only hear it on tape played by John Williams now here in front of me is a guy I just met playing live!

I can say that we became friends faster. Then he taught me how to play the guitar because I never knew how. You know what? What he did was the fastest tutorial I ever saw and experienced. I learned the basic chords plus the 7s and minors and the minor-7s in fifteen minutes! Ok that may be too short…30 minutes. Yeah I’m sure it was less than that otherwise I wouldn’t be amazed.

Well, maybe it worked for me because I’m logical and he taught it in a logical manner. I’m more of a code type of person. I learn things when the answer is solvable so even if I forget the answer I just solve it or deduce once again.

That’s what he did with his teaching. He taught me how the chord patterns are formed. Then all I needed was practice…which, sadly, to this point, I really wasn’t able to do. But still, I know how to get C, D, E, F, G, A, B, Cm, Dm, Em, Fm, Gm, Am, Bm, C7, D7, E7, F7, G7, A7, B7, Cm7, Dm7, Em7, Fm7, Gm7, Am7, Bm7, C#, D#, E# (which is F), F#, G#, A#, B# (which is C), Cb (which is B), Db, Eb, Fb (which is E), Gb, Ab and Bb without referring to a chord chart….and he taught me in 1992…that was 15 years ago.
